We spent the last weekend in September in and around the Collegiate Peaks, expecting yellow aspen leaves and cooler temperatures. We had cooler temperatures, and at the top of Tincup Pass we had quite a bit of snow and temperatures in the 30s.
After we got down to lower elevations we soon headed back up Cottonwood Pass to find more snow and frozen mud. It was an adventure! It would seem that winter has come early to the high country, but then we were surrounded by aspen trees with leaves that were still green. There were even flowers in places. I wonder what this will mean for our winter months?
