Technically, I’ve been getting ready for the PMP certification exam for two years. To be a project manager you really need the certification from PMI in order to get a job in this market, and that’s a requirement that’s here to stay. So, I knew I needed to get it. I knew a Master’s degree in project management would help, so I started down that road in 2011. I graduated, and I started studying in earnest in October of 2013. Today, at 7PM, I passed. Hooray!
The exam was four hours long under heavy security. They checked our pockets and didn’t let us in the test center with anything other than our clothes, shoes, and ID. They provided two pencils and five sheets of paper and a timer for 200 questions.
I had prepared but it wasn’t the same as my practice exams. I finished all 200 questions in three hours and 40 minutes, and I took the last 20 minutes to go over a few problems. When I pressed the button to end the exam I wasn’t sure I had passed or not.
There are five sections of the test but they aren’t even sections. No one really knows how they’re divided. I passed with above average scores in four out of the five sections, and I had average scores for the fifth section. Wow! I was pretty happy and very surprised with the results. I had them as soon as I finished the test.
What’s a girl to do if there is nothing to study?
Now I’ll start looking for a job as a project manager. Wish me luck!
