I’ve spent a few days at the campground at Boyd Lake State Park this year, and it’s one of my new favorites. It’s about an hour from my house on easy roads and highways, with views of a big lake and the mountains to the west.

My friends Miriam and Karen stayed with me, and we had a blast camping, grilling, and playing Mexican Train.

I had such a good time, and the best spot at the campground (site 58) was open. I booked it, and my friends Mike and Cindy booked the site next to me with their motor home. It was chilly and it snowed a little, but it was still an awesome time. I put a tiny space heater in the basement near my fresh water tank and water pump, and nothing froze even though the night got down to 20 degrees. I might be into winter camping next year.
I think we’ll make Boyd Lake State Park our season closer. It’s perfect!
