• About Monica

I live in Denver, Colorado, and I love it here. I love to organize events and do fun things with my friends, so you'll see a lot of that here. My first group started in 2002 when I put TrailDamage.com together, and we're still going strong. That's where the term "Monicarchy" came from. Obviously, it's a play on my name, but it also reflects that my groups are rarely democracies. We usually go where I want and when I want to go, and I'm lucky to have friends with the same interests. I also organize a movie group, a dinner group, and a group focusing on random nonsense.  Even though I'm fortunate to reign as a monicarch in many situations, we can't have what we want all the time. I'll have things to say about that, of course, and you can find my ramblings here. Thanks for stopping by!

I bought some different coffees this time, and lots of them to stock up the freezer.  I’m looking forward to this round. I also ordered some from Yemen, which has been my favorite to date.  Yum!

I’ve spent a few days at the campground at Boyd Lake State Park this year, and it’s one of my new favorites.  It’s about an hour from my house on easy roads and highways, with views of a big lake and the mountains to the west. October 7th, 2017 My friends Miriam and Karen...

    Upgraded Glamping

    by  • October 2, 2017 • Camping, Motor Home • 0 Comments

I camped for the first time in a tent in 2013 — admittedly, everyone was calling it the Taj Mahal and the title was pretty accurate.  It had carpeting, a tall mattress, and a ceiling fan, with lots of square footage.  It only took two years for me to realize that wasn’t enough. I...

    Monitoring TrailDamage.com

    by  • July 7, 2017 • Uncategorized • 0 Comments

I’ve redone TrailDamage.com and I’m still wrestling with uptime percentages and page speeds.  I’ve upgraded the server three times in six weeks, and it might need another boost.  Ugh! I’ve only been monitoring with Pingdom for a couple of days, and hopefully the numbers mellow out.  I’m trying to hook up a CDN but...

    Coffee Region Test: Yemen

    by  • June 16, 2017 • Coffee, Uncategorized • 0 Comments

Coffee began in Yemen, and it’s not particularly easy to find.  I ordered some medium roast and I’m looking forward to trying this small-batch coffee.  The beans are grown in Yemen’s mountainous west at 1500 to 2100 meters. A network of small-holder producers meticulously grow and harvest this heirloom coffee by hand, and dry it in the...

Coffee Region Test: Rwanda and Indonesia

    by  • March 16, 2017 • Coffee • 1 Comment

I found some Rwanda Inzovu, and I ordered that along with some Sumatra Lintong from Indonesia.  I’ll be working my way through Indonesian coffees for a while.  There are four main regions in Indonesia, for coffee: Sumatra Sulawesi (Celebes) Java Timor I’ve always seen Sumatra coffee at Starbucks, so I’m guessing it will be...
